Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m originally from San Diego. I graduated from UCI. I currently am a Project Manager/Research Associate on the R&D side at a genetics diagnostic company.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
It’s been 1 year.
What time do you usually work out?
I usually work out at the 6pm class or 7pm.
Tell us a little bit about your CrossFit experience.
I initially was anti-CrossFit. I’ve done all sorts of sports competitively ever since I was young all the way through my recent adulthood of marathons and Ironman triathlon. Until then, I had only used strength training as a supplement to my other sports, as I hated going to the gym to lift, only with the intent of injury prevention for my other activities. At the time, I couldn’t wrap my head around the concept of CrossFit and that strength training could possibly be competitive, let alone a sport.
My husband (fiance at the time) had been wanting to try out CrossFit for a while and had finally signed up for onboarding. I had bugged him about it prior and asked why he was going and I myself, was adamant about not going. We usually workout together whether it be running, biking or swimming and so for him to try out a new sport made me a bit curious and jealous. At the last minute, I remember grabbing my workout stuff angrily, yet nervous at the same time, slightly comforted with the notion that I could do onboarding for just a week, and not continue after that, if I so chose.
After the first day, I was hooked. I think it was when we did our last workout of onboarding… Fight Gone Bad, I knew I was going to like CrossFit… a lot! Since then, my husband and I have been doing CrossFit for a little over a year now, and I’m addicted. I go more often in a week than my husband goes. If I just think about CrossFit, I start sweating. Even when I’m sore and have gone so many days in a row, and I should take a rest day, I crave the endorphins and aiming for a PR either through reps or by time. I love the Costa Mesa gym and I’m glad that my first exposure to CrossFit was through the CM gym. I love the coaching staff; everyone seems very knowledgeable technically, eager to help and very encouraging.
What is something about you that others might be surprised to know?
I enjoy watching 80s movies and TV shows with my 2 cats.
What’s your favorite workout, lift or movement?
My favorite workouts are anything that involve the barbell. All the bar-work is technical so it’s great to constantly learn better technique in order to get better.
Where is your favorite place to eat out in OC?
I like anything with meats, especially burgers. Umami is pretty delicious.
