Workout of the Day
For time of:
400m Run Backwards
400m Run Backwards
No auxiliary work today as we are in a de-load phase. Take this time to think about what you’ve discovered about your body and mind during this last phase. Do you feel like your nutrition has matched your additional physical output? Are you sleeping well? Focus on recovery; it’s half the game.
Session Notes, From CrossFit.com
“In honor of USAF SSgt Travis L. Griffin, 28, who was killed April 3, 2008 in the Rasheed district of Baghdad by an IED strike to his vehicle. Travis is survived by his son Elijah.”
Session Notes: Forward, by Chris Worden
Eleven years ago today the World Trade Centers fell, the Pentagon was under attack, and an unsuccessful additional attempt ended with a plane crashing into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Since then we’ve relived these nightmares each year, in an effort to honor those who lost their lives on this day and as a way to cope with the shock of such an attack on American soil.
Soren Kierkegaard famously wrote “Life can only be understood backwards; but it must be lived forwards.” And though this quote comes from one of the first existentialist philosophers of our time, the sentiment works for both those of us who think that our experience and livelihoods are best understood through an individual’s lens as it does for those who believe that we are all one, we are all in this together.
Truly, we are all in this together and if we are to understand the tragedy that happened that day we must look back at it with a focus on the individuals that caused it, and to move forward we must believe that while economic borders, religion and race separate us from “them” we are all one in the same.
Treat others as you’d want to be treated.
So today we took part — as many CrossFit gyms do on a day like this — in a hero workout, Griff. The physical manifestation of this workout is a forward/backward ordeal, and while we suffered through it we should take a second — once the sweat and acidity subsides — to think about those we’ve lost on this day and how we can move forward with more understanding, less hatred and a broader view of the world at large.

Pink Bra Tour
The Barbells for Boobs team have been throwing Amazing Grace events for 3 years now. Last year they embarked in a cross country tour, stopping at CrossFit gyms all over the map to promote their message of breast cancer awareness. This year CrossFit Costa Mesa is honored to be picked as the official tour stop in Orange County. We’re kicking the tour off at our gym and we need your support!
