Today was my rest day, and rest I did. I even got an ice bath in. My arms have been very achy lately, and I hoped that icing them would help. It did, temporarily, but unfortunately they still aren’t great. Trying to fall asleep at night is the hardest for some reason. Anyway…
After many weeks of not going to church, Jeff and I went back this morning. I’ll admit, I was a little distracted and my mind wandered quite a bit, but what I did get from it was the importance of telling our personal stories. We took some time to share with a couple people around us how we came to know Jesus. This is always somewhat awkward, but reflecting on it now, I completely agree with the importance of sharing our stories… of remembering where we started, even if we aren’t necessarily where we want to be at the moment.
On this note, I got an email from a friend last week who wanted me to share with his wife about CrossFit and how it has affected me, and to dispel some of the common misconceptions about it. Next month will be three years since stating my journey at CrossFit Costa Mesa, and as I wrote to my friend’s wife, it was good for me to think back to the beginning… to remember where I started and how far I have come not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. Much like this morning at church, it was good for me to think back to when Jesus first made sense to me. I am not really where I want to be in all areas of my life, and as someone who has a hard time having a lot of grace with myself, I tend to run from God rather than to him. What I am sensing this week, is that I need to take care of my heart, and to me that means making time to be alone with God and to pray… something that has been lacking.
I don’t mean for this to be a downer… not at all! Just thinking about where I’m at and where I want to be. It’s going to be a good week!
