I sure needed a light day today… my body is tired and sore… but I’m still so happy about my muscle ups yesterday!
I started getting excited to go to Visalia this weekend. This year will be different and hard without Jane and Poopa… I have spent Christmas morning with them every year for as long as I can remember. We drive the short mile over to their house in our PJ’s, and are greeted by Poopa in his old Stanford sweats, while Janey is hard at work in the kitchen… with floppy antlers on her head. We open stockings first, filled with meltaway mints, weird/slightly creepy ornaments, an l.l. bean alarm clock, and some other random crap that my grandma has probably had for years, and I end up tossing out when I get home. Pam attempts to play ‘The First Noel’ (the only song she knows, by the way) on the old grand piano while we all sing along out of key. Then we eat breakfast together…egg casserole, link sausage, a curried peach (which I always pass on), and the most delicious biscuits you’ve ever tasted. We all wear paper crowns on our heads and read the stupid jokes from the popper things at our place setting. It is pretty much always the same… not perfect, but so good. I will miss all of this. I will miss them, but I am also thankful for all of the time and experiences I got with my grandparents. This year, my other grandma, Zoe, will be with us. She flew out from Ohio this week. Zoe (I call her by her name, like Jane… kind of strange, I know) is fiery and funny, and it will be so good to spend a few days hanging out with her, and with the rest of my family and Jeff’s.
Getting my workouts in while visiting family is always more challenging, because it’s hard to sneak away. Not to mention, the people at ‘In Shape’ look at me funny and it takes me forever just to find and set up everything I need there. Still, I will try my best.
