It is crazy to me to think that my first CrossFit competition was this same one in December of last year. I have come such a long way, and though I am still me, I have changed. I know I have said it before, but I just feel so lucky that I get to get to do this. Some days I forget how blessed I am that I have the time to train, and support from Jeff and others, and that my body is even able. I am very grateful.
Last December, I was sick to my stomach and scared out of my mind to compete. I still get butterflies, but I can confidently say that I get a little excited for these things now. In the end, it is just another workout, and all I can do is my best… and have fun, of course 😉 Fortunately for me, the first event on Saturday was a little less than a 5k run. I realized while standing at the starting line that there were some serious runners there, so my goal was to keep my pace, and hopefully pass a few girls. There were only 5 ahead of me to catch, and I got 2 of them. The third place girl created a pretty large gap, so I didn’t make it to her.
The second workout went by very quickly. I had never done a 1 rep max hang snatch, but I ended up with 85#. The 1k bike was short, but very painful… my legs weren’t talking… they were definitely screaming. I had to put my head down and drive as hard as my legs would let me. The last workout was a chipper, and the one I was most looking forward to. There were definitely parts that I could have been a little better at, but not for lack of trying. Stringing my toes to bar was tough, and the double unders at the end were extremely tiring, but I pushed hard and finished with a good time. At the end of the day, I am pretty sure I placed 4th for intermediate women. I’m happy with this. I had fun and I am thankful that so many people came out to watch and cheer.
