You had to be there…
Alec came up with a burner today, good enough to send many of us to the floor, groaning and cursing the gods. But this workout was about much more than just lifting and running and conditioning; today we thumbed our nose a bit at the exercise business at large. Let me explain.
The fitness industry is filled with flashy ads for quick fixes, easy exercises and workout plans that guarantee you results in a matter of days. “Sit and be Fit!” “Six minutes a day is all you need!” they’ll tell you, but it’s all lies. Becoming truly fit, both mentally and physically takes time, dedication and something deep down inside that can’t be put into words. If you’ve been sold on a quick fix fitness program in the past, don’t be too hard on yourself. Millions buy P90X each year, ten fold more than that buy gym memberships they’ll never use. It’s sad really.
But I’m preaching to the choir here, you are probably already a member of a CrossFit gym and the changes in your physique and attitude have been forged through sweat and suffering, and lots of it.
Here’s to you, CrossFitter (I’m raising my fake glass of champagne here) for understanding what it takes to achieve real fitness.
“Let’s make 2011 your fittest year!” I’d say.
Now let’s get back to those burpees.
