Then, after 5 minutes rest…

2 Minute Rest
2x (30/30) Burpees
Today’s strength piece isn’t really a rep/set scheme that we do all that often. If we were to run it out to five sets of three we’d be breaking into the kind of volume you’d need for good strength building. When I scheduled out this month’s programming I looked for holes that could be filed with skill work, time to improve on the lifts that require some serious neurological connections, the overhead squat is a perfect example.
So, in short, today wasn’t really a strength day, nor was it a straight conditioning day, either. But overall I think the mix of slow, steady overhead squats coupled with some explosive full body movements all wrapped up in a one-hour package is excellent.
I hope you agree.
Back to Basics: Clean and Jerk – Saturday, February 26th, at 12:30pm
Our AM trainer Gillian Formaneck can put more weight overhead than you (as a percentage of body weight). But she’s not good at just lifting, she’s also excellent at coaching people to lift as well, that’s why she was excited for the opportunity to coach a Clean and Jerk Basics seminar this coming Saturday, February 26th. Be there!
Businessman Fran – Saturday, February 26th, at 2:00pm
As the name implies, Fran will be a part of this special event. For a preview, look back at Alec performing this back in our garage days. Find an old business suit and get in the gym for a workout you’ll never forget. We’ll be shooting some video this day, too. So dress to impress! 🙂
Man, I sure am sick. Something like the flu is pinning me down to earth like a steamroller; I feel like I weigh 3000lbs, the stairs in my house are crushing, just doing the laundry makes me re-think the necessity for clean underwear.
Why am I rambling about being sick? Because I don’t want you to get sick. Ok?
Do these three things today to keep from getting steam-rolled like I have:
1. Drink more water: mucous production has a lot to do with hydration. If you’re dehydrated the boogies in your nose won’t capture the junk flying up your nostrils. Junk = sick.
2. Eat cleaner: I know you’ve heard this a million times from us, but clean up your diet. Processed carbs and junk food do nothing to benefit one’s immune system.
3. Rest: If you’ve got some dimmers on your lights at your place start bringing the light down slowly as you approach bed time. Then, an hour out from when you’re planning on getting some Zzzzs, turn the TV and any other glowing box of and leave it off.
Forever in Sweatpants,
